Wolverhampton v Scunthorpe Preview
Admin (Mon-Pari-Sportif.com) - “We were a shambles” and “It hurts and it should hurt” are probably the most common phrases repeated by the Wolves staff to describe the Championship club's performance against Cardiff in the FA Cup at the weekend, and the shared feeling after the game. For boss Mick McCarthy and his Wolves squad, a league game against bottom side Scunthorpe couldn’t come at a better time, as the once-favourites to get promoted try to pick themselves up and get back to winning ways. Wolves have slipped down the Championship table, a 12th seat, three consecutive league setbacks (3-0 away to Watford, 2-4 against Stoke City, and 0-0 away to Blackpool) followed by a 2-0 defeat on home soil against Cardiff (with a goal conceded in the first minute of the encounter) are far from pleasing a more-and-more demanding Ninian Park. The local fans laid into the team during and after the FA Cup exit, and no doubt Wolves will be keen to get nothing but three points against a Scunthorpe side that will be missing defender Cliff Byrne and suspended Grant McCann. The visitors are one of the worst defense of the league (hence the position), and despite Wolves’ current bad run (against more than decent sides, let’s remember Stoke and Watford are the top 2 sides), McCarthy’s men have more than enough to get back to winning ways tonight. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, George Elokobi, David Edwards and Daniel Jones, who sit out the Cardiff game as they were cup-tied, could be involved, and fresh blood will do the locals more good than anything… Verdict: Victory for Wolves. Asian Handicap -1.0 @ 2.39.
