Sunday: Celtic and Bayern too strong?

Admin (Mon-Pari-Sportif.com)  - A couple of squads which should take three points on Sunday with the visit of Celtic away to Pittodrie (that’s in Aberdeen) and Bundesliga’s favorites Bayern at home against direct rivals Werder Bremen.

Celtic have been far from impressive this season, despite looking as a title contender, sitting currently as runners-up 4 lengths off arch-rivals Rangers. But the transfer window now closed with the addition of four new faces (Hutchinson, Robson, Mizuno, Hinkel and Greek striker Samaras who by the way broke his duck for the Bhoys in his side’s last game), I reckon Strachan got what he wanted, i.e. a bit more competition between his usual suspects.

Meanwhile in Aberdeen, and jeez don’t I know about it (I backed them up against Dundee United in the CIS Cup semi-final this week!), the northern side is going through a difficult patch. Jimmy Calderwood’s men have endured one draw and two defeats in their last three games, and were booted out of the CIS Cup in style by United.

Aberdeen are in too bad shape to bounce back against the big boys from Glasgow. Celtic to win this one.

In Bundesliga, on the same day, Bayern and Werder play the top of the table clash the whole Germany is waiting for, with the Allianz Arena outfit (as usual) favourite to take the honours. The Bavarians thrashed Werder on two occasions last year (1-4 in the Cup back in June and 0-4 during their first head-to-head of the 2007/08 season), and no doubt Werder will be looking for a positive result on Sunday.

However, it could be hard for a visiting side hit by a number of absentees. Hugo Almeida and Naldo are suspended, Torsten Frings and Clemens Fritz are out injured, Boubacar Sanogo is away to the CAN, and Tim Borowski, Aaron Hunt, Ivan Klasnic and Petri Pasanen are doubtful.

Bayern are without Franck Ribery, the French international having sustained a hamstring injury, but the likes of Toni, Klose (currently on 10 and 9 goals respectively this season) should have too much for a Werder lacking two mains scorers (Almeida and Sanogo are second best scorers of the club with 7 efforts, behind Diego who’s on 9).

Verdict: Bayern and Celtic to take three points on the day. Nice double @ 2.71.
