Greek Super League Preview
Admin (Mon-Pari-Sportif.com) - A pair of favourites I am expecting to bounce back, following disappoint results last weekend, with the away games of big guns AEK Athens and Olympiakos. AEK’s three-game winning run was brought to an end by Panionios last round, the surprising 3-2 home defeat leaving the Athens side stranded with 42 points and a second place behind newly-leaders Panathinaikos. I am expecting Rivaldo, Lyberopoulos, Blanco & co to take their side back to winning ways against a Larisa team in lack of striking inspiration. 9th-placed Larisa are still unbeaten at home (2W 6D 0L), having even held Panathinaikos and Olympiakos to home draws, but with 15 only goals scored this season, things could turn out the wrong way on Saturday against AEK. Expect Blanco (best scorer in the league) to print his name on the score sheet. Mohamed Kallon, who’s just signed a 6-month contract with AEK has also a point to prove. Another side expect to do better than last weekend, Olympiakos, currently 3rd in the Super League, only one length behind runners-up AEK, who are travelling Panionios. The 3-time defending champions were handed a massive blow by Appollon’s Barkoglou, who decided to score the only goal of the game in stoppage time, and no doubt the traveling champions will be keen to turn round things and get back to convincing ways, following not-so-decent results. Panionios have done well so far, mainly thanks to Djebbour, currently second best scorer in the Greek league with 11 efforts, but only sit 7th in the table, a massive 15 points off leaders Panathinaikos (who by the way host second from bottom Veria FC at the weekend). I see a close game here. But Olympiakos have enough talent to get three points, and would better do so, not so far away from their Champions League game against Rangers. Kovacevic has been on fire this season, on level goals with AEK’s Blanco, let’s hope his partnership with River Plate's attacking midfielder Fernando Daniel Belluschi, who’s just arrived in Greece (and who I think is a absolute cracking player), help Olympiakos come out on top on Sunday. Verdict: I will go for a more-than-decent AEK-Olympiakos double @ 3.43. Expect the odds to drop rapidly.
