Fehervar FC v MTK Hungaria Preview

With a four-point cushion at the top of the Hungarian table, the winter break has been more than enjoyable for coach Jozsef Garami and his MTK side, on the look for their first league title since the 2003/04 campaign (which would hand the club their 23rd in total).

Balogh (Colchester), Nemeth and Simon (both to Liverpool) might have left the club last summer, but things could not be any better for MTK and their star striker Gabir Urban (22-year-old scored 7 in 14 matches). Best defense an best attack of the league during the first part of the season, the club is now looking to improve and increase the gap at the top of the table, and secure this long-awaited title.

Fehervar are more than decent at home, but their dreadful away form and overall stats compared to the leaders make their season way below par, which makes me think the hosts could find today’s task a bit tough against a free-scoring MTK side full of confidence.

Budapest Honved suffered another setback at the weekend (1-1 against REAC Budapest), but Debrecen and Ujpest both won to close the gap and increase pressure on the leaders.

Verdict: MTK will want to start the second part of the season in style, and Fervar’s defense could help them to do so. They have yet to be beaten away from home, and I don’t expect to be defeated today. A narrow away win @ 2.10 would suit me.
